The U.S. standards body, NIST, has finalized the new generation of encryption — the official replacement, approved after an eight-year public review. And it has set retirement dates for the old one:

🔹 Disallowed after 2035.
All of these everyday systems still run on the old encryption — and most of them can be upgraded piece by piece.

Blockchains are the exception — there is no piece-by-piece fix. The old encryption is part of their foundation, and you can’t rebuild a foundation while the house is still standing.
