How approach AI at Arteki

AI can now create stunning animation. Does that mean the animation profession is on its way out?🤔

The truth is, there’s a big difference between being able to generate a beautiful shot and understanding why that shot needs to exist in the first place.
AI is great at technical tasks. It recognizes patterns, understands structures, and can  familiar formulas. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it understands the meaning behind what it creates. Take humor, for exareproducemple. You can ask AI to come up with a joke. It knows how jokes work, what elements they contain, and where the unexpected twist should happen. Yet nine out of ten jokes it generates probably won’t be funny.

Director: “Why does the character have a different face in every shot?”

AI Animator: “It’s not a bug, it’s character development.”

That was an AI-generated joke. Funny? Yeah, that’s kind of our point.

Animation works in much the same way. You can create a visually flawless scene, but without a compelling idea, strong storytelling, and emotional depth, it’s unlikely to leave a lasting impression on the audience. At the same time, we shouldn’t underestimate what AI is capable of. It’s already transforming animation production in significant ways. It allows creators to explore a wider range of visual styles, test creative ideas faster, and bring concepts to life that might previously have been impossible due to time or budget constraints.

This is exactly how we approach AI at Arteki.

We use AI to handle a significant part of the technical workload and help turn creative ideas into reality. But the story, the characters, their personalities, and the key creative decisions remain in the hands of our team.

That’s why we don’t believe AI will make animators obsolete. Instead, we see it reshaping the tools and workflows of the industry.
Because even the most advanced tool can’t decide which story is worth telling, that remains a human responsibility.
