Atom Quantum ATQM aims to provide a post-quantum execution and settlement network.
Several distinctions are important here.
First, owning ATQM does not, by itself, protect someone’s bank account, medical records, mobile service, electrical grid, or personal information. The whitepaper defines ATQM as the network’s native asset used for gas, consensus security, and protocol fees.
Any post-quantum protection comes from using a system that has implemented the relevant cryptography—not simply from holding its token.
Second, Atom Quantum does not claim in the whitepaper to have invented ML-DSA, ML-KEM, or Falcon. It explicitly states that the network uses public NIST standards rather than proprietary cryptographic algorithms. However, those algorithms were not simply created by the U.S. government. They were submitted and developed by international research teams, then evaluated and standardized through an open process coordinated by NIST.
Apple, Google, Microsoft, and other organizations are also adopting post-quantum algorithms in specific products and protocols. That confirms that these are general-purpose public standards. Atom Quantum’s stated technical contribution is different: integrating post-quantum authentication across accounts, validator consensus, node communications, and smart-contract verification within one Layer 1 network. These capabilities are currently described as implemented in the testnet alpha, while broader applications remain part of the project’s vision and roadmap.
It is also correct that a blockchain requires electricity and network connectivity to remain operational. No blockchain can provide normal access during a complete infrastructure outage. However, a quantum computer does not inherently “shut down the internet.” The specific risk discussed in the whitepaper is that sufficiently capable quantum computers could compromise widely used public-key cryptography, allowing signatures to be forged or protected communications to be decrypted.
Therefore, the accurate summary is that Atom Quantum aims to provide a post-quantum execution and settlement network. It should not be described as a universal shield for the entire internet or every external service, and purchasing ATQM should not be presented as personal protection against every possible consequence of a future quantum threat.
